Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-run oil and gas firm, anticipates a boost in natural gas production at its giant Hassi Messaoud field and its Rhourde el Baguel field. The company said Hassi Messaoud field should see an increase of 10 Mmcm/d and the Rhourde el Baguel field should see output increase by 6 Mmcm/d.
Sonatrach CEO Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, on a visit to the field, said in a Reuters report that Algeria could use boosting techniques to increase output at existing fields as the government looks to offset a fall in oil prices that has cut energy revenues.
“We know that the prices will be around $45 to $55 a barrel, but we have no influence on them,” Ould Kaddour said.
The additional production will be for exports from Algeria.
