Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s oil minister, has been replaced as the group managing director of the country’s state-run NNPC. Kachikwu held the reins as NNPC head and was appointed Minister of State for Oil in 2015, with President Muhammadu Buhari keeping the petroleum minister job for himself.
Buhari has appointed Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru, previously group executive director for exploration and production, to take the top spot at NNPC. Kachikwu will remain on the board as chairman.
Abba Kyari also joins the new board, which replaces the one Buhari dissolved in June 2015. Kyari is Buhari’s chief of staff.
