New Gas Processing Plants for Nigeria

Monday, February 18, 2008

According to Emmanuel Odesina, Nigeria’s Natural Gas Minister, the country is set to build three new natural gas processing plants as well as a new grid of pipelines. The new plants will be built in the Warri/Forcados, Akwa Ibom/Calabar, and Obiafu areas of the Niger Delta.

The gas infrastructure will cost between $15 billion and $20 billion and should be put in place over the next four to seven years. The new gas grid is believed to be part of the government’s newly adopted natural gas policy.

Under the new guidelines for natural gas, gas producers must set aside a yet-to-be-determined percentage of their gas production for the domestic market.
