Nigeria Files New Charges against Shell and ENI

Monday, March 6, 2017

Royal Dutch Shell and ENI have had new charges filed against them by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency regarding OPL 245. The latest charges allege that the two firms paid $801 million in what can only be termed as a bribe when acquiring OPL 245.

The funds were allegedly paid to the West African country’s former oil minister Dan Etete through his Malabu Oil & Gas Ltd.

The two firms already had their stakes in OPL 245 temporarily forfeited by a Nigerian court pending investigations into the acquisition.
