Nigeria’s Abba Kyari dies of Covid-19

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari paid a tribute to his late chief of staff, Abba Kyari, who died in Lagos on April 17, succumbing to complications of the Covid-19 disease after a month-long battle. It is believed he contracted the disease on a trip to Germany. Kyari was only 67 years old. The president announced Kyari’s death on April 18.

In a written statement, Buhari said his “dearest friend” of more than 40 years tried to improve governance and reduce corruption in Nigeria. He was “the very best of us”, wrote the president.
