Seven petrol stations in Nigeria, including one NNPC-owned mega station, have been shut down by the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR). The stations, in Minna, were shut down by the DPR for short-changing customers on petrol purchases.
The Assistant Zonal Director for the DPR in the Abuja Zone, Olanrewaju Burahimoh, said the authorities went on the visit to protect the consumers who were being short-changed by the petroleum. The DPR visited 10 stations, seven of which were found to be cheating their customers.
“Our duty is basically to protect the consumer who is being cheated when he goes to purchase petroleum products from stations that have tampered with their pump prices thereby short changing the public for selfish reasons,” Burahimoh said.
Other than one of the NNPC mega stations that was closed, the DPR also shut in two of the three Total stations it visited. Of the Total petrol stations visited, only the station on Bosso Road passed the DPR’s test.
