In conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, PETRONAS continued its tradition by hosting the “PICL (Egypt) Corporate Iftar” gathering on August 2, 2012. The objective of this event is to create an opportunity to enhance both internal and external relations with the authorities, business partners and associates from other companies. This event that was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mohamed Amin Abdullah together with staff members of PICL (Egypt), congregated about 200 guests.
The guests of honour in the Iftar event were Malaysian Ambassador to Egypt – H.E. Dato' Dr Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Mukti, Ambassador of Brunei in Egypt, H.E. Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Mahdi Dato Laila Utama Hj Abdul Rahman, First Under-Secretary for Gas Affairs at Ministry of Petroleum Eng. Tarek El Hadidy, and Chairman of EGAS Eng. Mohamed Shoeib. Also present were representatives from the Egyptian petroleum authorities, Ministry of Petroleum, joint venture partners and the local media.
Mr Mohamed Amin in his welcoming address shared his observation on the business relationship between countries like Malaysia and Egypt. He stated both countries must ascertain availability of sufficient resources such as human capital and technology. An equally powerful strategy is the establishment of strategic alliances or partnering between countries that enables sharing of valuable resources and leveraging on leading competitive advantage.
In supporting the development of capability in Egypt, PETRONAS in collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum (MOP) has started in 2004 to sponsor students around Egypt to continue their study at the University Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in Malaysia. PETRONAS believes that education and capability building is the key factor that will improve a person and a society in the long term.
UTP is considered one of the pioneer universities in the field of science and technology in Malaysia, is a manifestation of PETRONAS’ commitments to provide opportunities for students to excel in the field of Chemical, Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, as well as Science, Information Technology and Information Systems. To date there have been a total of 122 Egyptian students studying at UTP.

For the gas development of West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession area, PETRONAS is a major partnertogether withEGAS, EGPC and BG in Burullus Gas Company who operates the subsea wells, pipeline system and Onshore Gas Terminal and in Egyptian LNG where the ELNG OpCo operates two LNG trains and the LNG Export Terminal in Idku, near Alexandria. The gas production from WDDM concession is currently about 1450 MMSCFD (about 25% of Egyptian gas production) is delivered to the Egyptian National Gas Grid for domestic demand and for export market in the form of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) through Egyptian LNG Plant.
