QP Still Interested in Mozambique

Tuesday, September 13, 2016

ENI may see another partner offshore Mozambique, Qatar Petroleum (QP). The company is rumored to be interested in joining the partners on Offshore Area 4. While the company neither confirmed or denied the interest, this is not the first time QP has been mentioned in conjunction with a stake in Mozambique.

In July it was rumored that QP would team up with ExxonMobil on a bid for a stake in ENI’s asset. One month later reports had ExxonMobil and ENI coming to terms on a deal that would have the US supermajor gaining a percentage of ENI’s stake in Area 4, sans QP.

QP is also rumored to be contemplating Anadarko’s Offshore Area 1, which adjoin ENI’s acreage.

Saad al-Kaabi, company CEO, recently said the group was looking at assets in Africa. Earlier this year it was announced that the Qatari firm was joining Chevron offshore Morocco.
