The Minister of Hydrocarbons for the Republic of Congo, Jean-Marc Thystere-Tchicaya, formally launched the 2016 Deepwater Licensing Round at Africa Oil Week in Cape Town on Tuesday. The Minister summarized the round whose soft launch opened October 28, and elaborated on the new petroleum code and PSC, tender documents, and license round timing.
The licensing round will close January 31, 2017 with winners announced by the end of March.
Thystere-Tchicaya also covered the planned 2017-18 Mer Peu Profonde licensing round targeting pre- and post-salt plays in highly prospective areas. He indicated PGS will acquire new MC data focused on pre-salt imaging to be made available prior to the round.
A fuller presentation with more technical details will be held by the Ministry on the sidelines of the conference on Wednesday.
