Release–RPS Energy Strengthens its Site Investigation and Survey Business in Aberdeen
In response to increasing work levels from operators seeking to manage risk when drilling and developing offshore infrastructure, RPS Energy is expanding its global Site Investigation and Survey business with the appointment of a Site Investigation manager for its Aberdeen office. David Coursey, with 27 years experience in the offshore industry as a successful project and client relationship manager, has joined RPS Energy in Aberdeen to strengthen the existing team in Aberdeen and contribute to the company’s broader site investigation consultancy work.
The North Sea and other parts of the UK Continental Shelf continue to be at the forefront of offshore operations for oil & gas, with a strong additional stimulus now being provided by the growing number of Energy companies looking to develop offshore windfarms . As with oil & gas operations these companies need a sound understanding of the offshore environment and the risks associated with operating in a harsh environment. Working closely with its dedicated Offshore Renewables division, RPS Energy’s Site Investigation and Survey consultancy teams have already successfully undertaken a large number of projects in the offshore wind sector, using expertise developed in the North Sea since the early 1980s.
The RPS Energy Site Investigation and Survey business provides a truly independent, integrated project management service with industry leading expertise in shallow geophysics, geotechnical engineering, geohazards and survey/GIS. The group is supported by the wider RPS Energy division with consultants involved in marine seismic, specialist geology, HSE, Risk Management, Archaeology and Unexploded ordnance. The Site Investigation and Survey business also interacts with our highly experienced Renewables team who have been working on large scale windfarm projects for many years. The sheer amount of data involved also means that our skills in providing ground breaking solutions to data integration and management are often required.
Karen Dalton Technical Director for Site Investigation and Survey comments:
“We can see that buoyant demand in the oil & gas sector together with the developing needs of offshore wind operators will require considerable expertise and effort from experienced consultancies such as RPS Energy. Many of these projects are in Scottish waters and we are pleased that we have the strength in Aberdeen to help our clients work in difficult offshore areas. We are also aware that expertise developed in the UK continental shelf will be sought internationally as more and more countries explore in inhospitable areas and look to windfarms to help their carbon mitigation strategies. This will be good for RPS Energy and good for the export of UK technical expertise”.
