Release–Rubberatkins Unveils New Swellable Elastomer Product at Offshore Europe 2009
A new development in swellable elastomers will be unveiled at Offshore Europe today (Wednesday 9 September 2009) by Rubberatkins Ltd. Following 18 months in development, Rubberatkins has developed a short swellable sealing system which is capable of holding pressures up to 10,000 PSI and temperatures of 120ºC. Thought to be the first of its kind to withstand extremely high pressures and temperatures, Rubberatkins has created a smaller, lighter version of the swellable technology. At only one foot in length, current swellable technologies can be up to 30 foot in length, the new product is designed to provide the client with a more manageable solution for annular sealing in the presence of oil or water.
Nick Atkins, director of Rubberatkins says, “Many of the swellable elastomers which are currently on the market are not able to cope with extremely high pressures or temperatures. We have invested significant amount of time and resources into developing and testing the new product to ensure that it can withstand extremely high pressures and temperatures consistently. All analysis was carried out at our in-house laboratory where we have the ability to perform pressure, temperature and chemical compatibility testing.
“The new sealing system we have developed will swell when coming into contact with oil or water, providing the client with a simple passive sealing solution. The product has no moving parts and no special setting tools are required to put it in place, meaning that the client can easily deploy it within a range of completion environments. It is easily adapted to different diameters, depending on our client’s requirements. It is possible to take this technology to withstand much higher differential pressures and temperatures which will be tested once we generate some interest.
“We are also working on a new suite of conventional swellable products and will be providing visitors with a preview of these new products. There are a range of solutions that this technology can provide and we are keen to talk to visitors at Offshore Europe about the benefits that this product can bring to their operations. ”
Rubberatkins will also be showcasing its newly created range of high pressure, high temperature AFLAS™ Packer Elements. Nick continues, “Using AFLAS™, which has an excellent chemical, heat and temperature resistance we have created a range of packer elements which can be used in a range of extreme environments. It is capable of holding pressures of up to 10,000 PSI and temperatures of 450ºF continuous and 540ºF short term. As an innovative company, we are constantly looking for ways to provide our clients with the most robust and reliable solutions for a range of different situations. The AFLAS™ Packer Elements will provide companies with a product which can be used in many different environments, so our products are highly versatile, whilst remaining extremely reliable.”
Rubberatkins designs and manufactures custom made elastomer and elastomer to metal components for the oil Industry.
