Rumors have US supermajor ExxonMobil in highly hush-hush talks with the government of South Sudan over potentially exploring for crude in the country. A source from the government was cited by South Sudan News Agency as saying ExxonMobil was in negotiations to buy a stake in an untapped oil deposit.
The source also said that Total and Tullow Oil were purportedly interested in buying into South Sudan’s untapped potential. “The government is working day and night to make sure these corporations are awarded stakes in our oil deposits,” the source added.
Currently South Sudan’s oil sector is exploited by CNPC, ONGC, and Petronas.
