Delonex Energy and Indian Oil Corp.plan to launch seismic and geophysical surveys in the Mozambican districts of Marracuene and Manhiça in the Maputo province in 2017. Augusto Mucavele, research director of the National Oil Institute (INP) speaking to newspaper Domingo, said the analysis will cover an area of 9,000 sq km and cost $70 million.
The partners will drill a number of wells to determine the prospectivity of the acreage. Depending on the results, more investment may be injected to further determine the amount of resources discovered.
Mucavale said that it is a large research area “because the level of geological knowledge we have of the area is very limited, which requires studies to be carried out from scratch.”
