Sirte Basin Bonanza for RWE Dea

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Dr. Shokri Ghanem, Chairman of Libya’s NOC confirmed that German firm RWE Dea has made a new oil discovery in Area 193 at Sirte Basin (700 km east of Tripoli, 150 km south-west of Ras Lanuf) under an EPSA 3 Agreement entered into with the National Oil Corp.

This discovery was made at the exploration well NC 193 – B1 well at a depth of 2,151 meters, drilled by the ADWOC #2 drilling rig. The total production reached 933 barrels per day on a choke of 32/64 inches. RWE Dea had announced the discovery earlier this month.

The ADWOC#2 was subsequently moved to the next location at C1-NC193, to commence drilling of a third well.

Following the completion of an extensive seismic program consisting of 2,400 sq km 3D and 3,000 km 2D, drilling activities will be intensified over the coming months to explore further promising prospects for hydrocarbons. For this purpose three drilling rigs will be employed to drill at least 8 exploration wells in concessions NC193, NC194, NC195, NC197, and NC198.

Under the EPSA Agreement, the share of NOC is 68% while the share of RWE is 32%. Studies are being performed to determine the reservoir’s size and the amount of reserves.
