Sonangol, Angola’s state-run oil firm, upped its potential resources on a discovery made earlier this year in the offshore Kwanza Basin. According to local media reports the discovery could hold 813 million boe. The discovery was made on Block 20.
According to Sonangol the block holds an estimated 313 million barrels of condensate and 2.8 Tcf of natural gas. The new estimates are significantly higher than earlier estimates. When the initial discovery was made in it was estimated at 139 million barrels of condensate and 2.5 Tcf of gas, for a total of 570 million boe.
Cobalt is currently the operator of the block with a 40% stake, while Sonangol holds 30% and BP Exploration Angola holds 30%.
