Algeria and Indonesia’s state-owned firms, Sonatrach and Pertamina, signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement supports Pertamina’s efforts to increase production from overseas oil and gas fields. The agreement covers upstream and downstream activities.
The agreement follows up on a deal signed in 2012 aimed at helping the two state-run firms to develop their capacity and build a partnership in Algeria and other parts of the world. The partnership in the upstream segment was the first step for Pertamina to demonstrate its ability as operator in Algeria’s Menzel Lejmat North (MLN) oil field.
The deal also allows the two companies to exchange information on LNG and its downstream products, and to team up and trade in the oil, gas and petrochemical sector. Pertamina has been importing 6 million barrels of crude per year from Algeria and expects to increase that number through capacity development.
