The first Unconventional Gas Conference & Exhibition supported by the Ministry of Oil and Gas Oman

The International Gas Conference and Exhibition, has been organised by Knowledge Expansion and chaired by His Excellency bin Khamis Al Jashmi, the Undersecretary for the Ministry of Oil and Gas in Oman. The conference is a three day event that will unite global industry leaders and stakeholders to tackle the opportunities and challenges that need to be overcome to maximise the potential from unconventional gas.

The event will take place from January 20-22 and will be held at the Ritz Carlton Al Bustan Palace, Muscat in Oman. Key note speakers attending include Mr. Raoul Restucci, Managing Director of PDO, Mr. Jerome Ferrier, President of the International Gas Union (IGU), Mr. Menahi Al Anzi, Deputy CEO Exploration & Gas for KOC and Mr. David Dalton, Middle East Regional President for BP.

The Middle East as region holds substantial resources of unconventional gas, especially tight gas and shale gas which is hard to extract and requires advanced technologies and expertise. The conference will bring together global experts who will share and transfer knowledge and expertise on the area of Unconventional Gas, a prime market for the Middle East to enter into.

Regardless of existence of highly productive conventional gas fields in this region, tight gas related exploration and appraisal activities in several countries such as Sultanate of Oman, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Algeria, Egypt & Libya have increased and are expected to pick up pace as time goes on. This will ultimately strengthen energy security, unlocking new economical energy sources.

Speaking about the upcoming conference, Mr. Rafeeq Kunhi, Director at Knowledge Expansion, said: “Understanding the market and realizing there was a need to bring more knowledge about Unconventional Gas to the region, we created the International Unconventional Gas Conference & Exhibition. We recognize the importance of producing unconventional gas, the role it plays in the Energy industry, and the potential for developing and producing it in the Middle East is huge.”

This year’s conference brings together international experts to share emerging findings from groundbreaking research, real successes and lessons learned from international developments.

The event will highlight, focus and showcase the opportunities for oil and gas companies to transfer skills and knowledge to take advantage of the unconventional developments planned in Middle East and further afield. Key topic areas include: What makes a successful Unconventional Gas Development, Sustainability and Technology in this area.

As well as the support from the Ministry of Oil and Gas and PDO, sponsors of the event also include BP, Shell, STS and Packers Plus and CC Energy.
