WEF Names Oando Chief Young Global Leader for 2007

Jubril Adewale Tinubu, Chief Executive of Nigeria’s Oando Plc, has been recognized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a young Global Leader for 2007. This prestigious honor is bestowed upon individuals 40 years or younger that have displayed exceptional leadership skills by WEF out of Switzerland.

Tinubu, more commonly known as Wale Tinubu, has been at the helm of Nigeria’s Oando plc, formerly Unipetrol, an integrated energy services provider, for just under five years now. Tinubu is credited with leading indigenous firm Oando to the top of its class in providing services that cover upstream, energy services, gas, power and international supply and trading of refined products.

Tinubu has oft stated his vision of leading Oando to become a world-class company, with a global reach, and show the world that Nigeria, and Nigerians can produce home grown companies that are able to compete on a global level. WEF’s selection of Tinubu as one of the 250 business executives, intellectuals, and public figures recognized for their talent, pays homage to the first rate organization Oando has become under Tinubu’s leadership.

Professor Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman, WEF, summed up what the selection of Global Leader symbolizes: “Confronting and tackling global challenges will require fresh, strategic thinking from global leaders, as well as innovative and truly international solutions based on global collaborations, which lead to the Young Global Leaders – to be a voice for the future in the global thought process. Together, they form a powerful international force for the global common good.”

Tinubu’s credentials are many. He is also the Chairman of Gaslink Nigeria Ltd, Oando Supply and Trading, Oando Power, Oando Energy Services, Oando Exploration and Production, Ocean and Oil Holdings Limited, Oando Ghana, Oando Togo, Oando Sierra Leone, Tilca Nigeria Limited and Trojan Estates Limited., a member of the 7th Governing Council for Lagos State University and the Institute of Directors of Nigeria. 

Tinubu has a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Liverpool, England and a Master of Law degree (LLM) from the London School of Economics where he specialized in International Finance and Shipping. He is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
