Wood Group Kenny Announces New Subsea Insulation Training Course

Wood Group Kenny’s all-of-facility asset integrity management business, Wood Group Integrity Management (WGIM), has created a brand new Subsea Insulation training course filling an identified gap in the market. The International Registered Marine Insulation Inspectors (IRMII) course has been designed to maximise the technical knowledge of advanced thermal insulation systems and inspection regimes for engineers and inspectors. The first session of the course took place in July 2013 and more sessions are planned for later in the year and in 2014.

The increase in deep water HTHP (High Temperature, High Pressure) development has resulted in greater demands being placed on thermal insulation technology. Where there have been failures in these systems, the root cause has often been attributed to mistakes in the selection and application processes. These industry failures combined with technological advances highlighted an urgent need for a common, independent and recognised form of training and certification for subsea thermal insulation.

Our technical experts at WGIM, in close collaboration with industry partners, developed IRMII to maximise technical knowledge of advanced thermal insulation systems and inspection regimes. The course is independently accredited through the Institute of Marine Surveyors and offers successful participants an industry recognised qualification which is renewable every five years.

Andy Blake, IRMII provider said “The course has attracted engineers, technical and inspection personnel from a wide range of organisations including PIH, DOW, Subsea 7 and INPEX. We are planning to provide the course through other key locations across the oil & gas industry.”
