Italian firm ENI’s CEO, Paolo Scaroni, met with President Armando Guebuza of Mozambique, during which he updated the East African nation’s president on its activities in the country. During the meeting Scaroni illustrated the progress made in terms of exploration;  following the completion of 11 wells, with a success rate of 100%, ENI plans to drill another two wells this year.

Guebuza was also updated on the progress of the development project being undertaken by ENI, Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and their respective partners on Area 4 and Area 1. The development project includes the construction of a LNG plant, which has already seen a portion of its future production sold to Asian markets. The project will also supply the local market and a GTL plant is also being studied.

President Guebuza expressed his appreciation for the work that ENI has carried out so far,  which will start to generate positive effects on the country, in terms of job creation, in the second half of the year, when work is set to begin on the road which will join Pemba to Palma. In addition, the possibility of enlarging the shareholder base of Area 4 was favorably received by the President, as this would further strengthen the project.
