Algeria and Turkey Renew Gas Supply Agreement

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Algeria will be supplying Turkey with natural gas according to the North African country’s minister of energy, Youcef Yousfi. The two countries renewed an agreement that has Algeria continuing its supply of gas to Turkey for another decade.

Under the renewal Algeria will deliver 4 Bcm to Turkey starting in 2014. The original agreement was signed in 1988 and came into effect in 1994.

Algeria’s official APS news agency said that it was "decided to extend the agreement by 10 years, with the possibility of increasing the volume of gas exported."

Speaking after a meeting in Algiers with visiting Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz, Yousfi told reporters that Sonatrach and Turkey's Botas have "already decided on the conditions and terms of the new agreement."
