Anadarko and ENI Sign LNG Agreements

On August 10 Anadarko and ENI signed agreements with the Mozambican government to build two LNG terminals. According to local media reports, the terminals will bebuilt in Cabo Delgado province where massive gas discoveries have been made offshore on Area 1 and Area 4.

State-controlled daily newspaper Noticias said the agreements were formalized on August 10 by Mozambique’s Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Letícia Klemens, and the regional heads of ENI and Anadarko.
Klemens pledged that the Mozambican government would do all in it’s power to ensuresuccess for the LNG projects.“The concession contracts impose rights and duties on both sides, and sowe expect from you compliance with all the obligations that flow from the contracts and from the legal frame work for the projects to beimplemented in Rovuma Basin Areas One and Four,” Klemens said.

The two companies will separately build their own terminals, Klemens told a pressconference, but declined to give the size of the investments.

More than $30 billion is expected to be invested in the East African country’s natural gas sect or to build capacity to produce 20 million tons per year of LNG, with the first exports due to start in 2021.
