Ghana Sees Sankofa Flows

Monday, July 10, 2017

Ghana added to its oil production totals when ENI and its partners saw first crude flows from the Sankofa field offshore the country. The Sankofa is located on the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) Block and is part of the first phase of development of the OCTP.

The OCTP development is expected to also deliver up to 180 Mmcf/d of natural gas by the end of next year, more than doubling domestic gas supply.

Production is being carried out via the John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO, which will produce up to 85,000 boepd through 18 underwater wells. A 63-km subsea pipeline will transport gas to Sanzule’s onshore receiving facilities, where it will be processed and transmitted to Ghana’s national grid.

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo opened the valves on the FPSO and said the project would ensure reliable and affordable clean energy to support economic activities and keep the country on the right path to growth.

“The need for creative thinking to leverage our oil and gas production for national development is a charge for us to keep – and we must not fail our people,” he told a gathering of chiefs and oil sector players in the western port city of Takoradi.

The OCTP is operated by ENI while Vitol and GNPC also hold stakes.
