Monday, August 7, 2017

Rwanda’s incumbent president, Paul Kagame, will serve another term as the leader of the country. Kagame won Rwanda’s recent election by a landslide, extending his 17 years in power.

The president secured 98.63% of the August 5 vote, according to a final tally released by the National Electoral Commission on Saturday.

The electoral commission said that voter turnout was 96.42%.

Speaking to his supporters on August 5,Kagame said “This is another seven years to take care of issues that affect Rwandans and ensure that we become real Rwandans who are (economically) developing.”

“What I saw during campaigns is that the decision to continue to lead you drew criticism mainly by foreigners but this proves that the referendum was for real purpose.”
