Kiir Replaces Head of Nilepet

South Sudan’s President SalvaKiirdismissed the director of state-run oil companyNilepet, James ThelwengMathiangRok. Kiir replaced Rok with Chol Deng Thon Abel, a specialist in soil aquifer treatment.

The dismissal takes place seven months after the appointment of ThelwengMathiangRok and less than a week after the revelation of the scandal that the country’s oil revenues are not stored in the Central Bank’s coffers in Juba.

The parliament that conducted the investigation accuses the government, including the Ministry of Petroleum and entities under its purview, of mismanagement of the sector.
