Nersa Rejects Eskom’s Tariff Increase Request

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

South Africa’s Nersa has rejected a request by Eskom to increase its tariffs. Apparently Eskom forgot to include crucial information on the application.

Eskom is looking for a tariff increase of 9.58% to help it run gas turbines and pay for power provided by independent electricity producers.

Nersa did say however it was looking for ways to give Eskom incentives to maintain its power plants and penalize the utility for poor performance. “We want to incentivise them for good maintenance and penalize them for bad performance,” Nersa’s head of electricity Thembani Bukula told Reuters.
