Shell Planning for Green Future

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Planning ahead for a world without crude, Shell is studying acquisitions in the green energy sector, the company’s CEO Ben van Beurden told Reuters. The company has faced shareholder pressure to come up with a strategy beyond fossil fuels, with Dutch pension fund PGGM criticizing the company’s climate change policies.

“The idea that you can just be a very clever observer and step in when the moment is right, forget about it,” van Beurden said. “I am convinced that in this space we will play an active role, a leading role and we will plan acquisitions in it.”

The firm does have some green investments with a 500-MW wind farm in the US and participation in Brazil’s biofuel industry.
