Tunisia Builds Border Fence

Sunday, February 7, 2016

In an effort to keep the chaos of Libya from spilling over into its borders Tunisia has constructed a fence on its frontier. The 200-km long fence, constructed to keep ISIS fighters out, will have electronic monitoring systems.

Tunisia’s Defense Minister Farhat Hachani told reporters on February 6 that troops have raised an earth wall and dug trenches 2 km from the Libyan border, and European and American military trainers will soon train Tunisian forces to improve electronic surveillance with cameras and radar.

“Today we finished closing it off, and this will help us protect our border, and stop the threat,” he said.

Security forces said the defenses had already helped to reduce smuggling.
