Tuesday, August 18, 2020

Atacama Consulting and DNVGL, both contracted by the Albertine Graben Refinery Consortium (AGRC) to undertake an Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Uganda Refinery Project have started collection of baseline data for the ESIA.

The ESIA will cover the components of the project that include a Water Intake at Mbegu (on Lake Albert) for supplying water to the Refinery, the Refinery, and Multi-product pipeline from the Refinery to Remote Terminal in Mpigi.

The Petroleum Authority of Uganda and Uganda National Oil Company are currently participating in this process to ensure that a comprehensive and quality baseline is generated.

The exercise kicked off with collection of baseline data on mammals, avi-fauna (birds), entomology (insects), reptiles, aquatic ecology, botany (plants) and hydrology for the ESIA.

The baseline will the used for future monitoring of project impacts on the environment.
