10 Modular Refineries Coming to the Niger Delta

Thursday, August 15, 2019

During the recently concluded Annual General Meeting of the Effurun Uywie Local Government Area of Delta State, it was revealed that 10 modular refineries would soon begin operation in states located in the Niger Delta region. The National Chairman of the Host Communities of the Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSCON), Dr. Mike Emuh, said that the Nigerian government had begun moves to comply with the demands of the host communities.

Emuh said that HOSCON has already trained some personnel to ensure the security of the pipelines once the modular refineries begin operations. This, he said, would ensure smooth operations at the refineries.

The chairman also commented on the tension in the Niger Delta’s producing communities over the delay in releasing funds to the oil producing communities, appealing to the government to speed up the payment of the funds. According to Nigerian law, 13% of all funds generated by oil and gas production in producing states goes to the communities where the resources are produced.
