On the same day that rival governments in Libya signed the UN-brokered agreement to form a unity government, clashes broke out in eastern Libya. The clashes between armed groups loyal to the official government and Islamist groups left at least 14 dead and another 25 wounded.
The fighting, which carried into December 19, broke out in the city of Ajdabiya. Casualties in the Ajdabiya fighting included civilians and members of groups supporting the Libyan National Army, Reuters sources who asked not to be named said. They added that casualties from the other side were not treated in the town’s hospitals.
It was unclear whether the Islamist fighters were affiliated to ISIS or not.
