The northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri was that site of an explosion that left eight people dead and more than a dozen wounded. According to reports out of the city a car full of explosives hit a taxi and exploded.
Five people were inside the taxi in a convoy to Gamboru, a town near the Cameroon border, police said in a statement. The region is home to Nigeria’s Islamist militant group the Boko Haram.
