Acquisition Places Greater FOCUS On Environmental Offering

Friday, May 6, 2016

Aberdeen-headquartered oil and gas service company FOCUS has acquired environmental legislative and corporate compliance consultancy Trilogy Environmental Services.

Independent drilling fluid specialist FOCUS has purchased the Granite City business in a move that will enhance its own environmental service offering.  With an increasingly complex environmental legal framework being put in place by regulators around the world, a robust professional and comprehensive environmental service is viewed as core to the future of the business.

FOCUS works with oil and gas operators and drilling contractors globally to manage and optimise the drilling fluid systems.  Delivered on and offshore over the whole life-cycle of a well, its services reduce costs and waste, eliminate surface spills, and ensure environmental and regulatory compliance.

Trilogy was established in 2008 to provide environmental and regulatory compliance consultancy services to a range of industries, particularly the oil and gas and energy sectors.  Alongside delivering its core services of environmental impact assessments, permits, audit, consents and assurance, and waste management advice, it has been involved in a major North Sea decommissioning project.

Trilogy’s experienced small core team will strengthen FOCUS’ environmental team which is led by environmental manager Dr Colin Patterson.  Based at the firm’s Aberdeen headquarters, the team will continue to deliver the same broad range of environmental services while supporting FOCUS’ three regional divisions, which cover the Americas; Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and Asia Pacific.

Colin Manderson, chairman of FOCUS, said: “Acquiring Trilogy Environmental Services is a strategically important move for FOCUS.  It forms the natural next step in the evolution of the company, which was only formed a few months ago, and strengthens our environmental service by offering a greater level of support to customers.

“Enhancing our environmental service is consistent with the more stringent regulatory regime in the oil and gas sector. Greater emphasis continues to be placed on environmental matters, with regulators around the world tightening environmental legislation for both onshore and offshore operations.  Through their knowledge and frequent engagement with regulators our expanded team can confidently guide clients through an increasingly complex legal framework.  Trilogy’s experience will also expose FOCUS to additional phases of the oil and gas cycle.”
