Addax Workers Strike

Thursday, April 19, 2018

Workers of the PENGASSAN oil workers union in Nigeria employed by Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Ltd. commenced an indefinite strike on April 16.

The workers locked out senior staff from the company’s Lagos office. The strike by the PENGASSAN workers could cause Addax to have to shut in an estimated 30,000 bpd in production if it carries on to long.

The chairman of the local chapter of PENGASSAN, Chris Ogiewonyi, said workers resorted to the indefinite strike as a result of failed and inconclusive communications between the union and management over alleged “culture of impunity against some of its officials.”
