Africa Oil Corp. has been continuing to ramp up its exploration programs in East Africa according to its Q2 results report. The company, in conjunction with Tullow Oil, has two Tullow-Africa Oil JV rigs operating in Kenya and one JV rig operating in Ethiopia.
The company reported that a fourth rig has been secured and is expected to commence testing and drilling operations in Kenya on Blocks 10BB and 13T during October 2013. On Block 9 in Kenya, where Africa Oil is the operator, a fifth rig was secured and is expected to begin drilling operations in September.
In addition, the company and its partners in Ethiopia’s Block 7/8 have secured a sixth rig, which will commence drilling operations in September 2013. For a period, the company will have six drilling rigs operating and expects to exit the year with five rigs operating in the region. It plans to have drilled 10 exploration wells and to have tested four wells across its exploration blocks during 2013.
