Africa Sees Violent Weekend

The past weekend was one of violence across parts of Africa. Cairo saw multiple bomb blasts on December 9 and December 11 that left more than 30 dead and dozens injured. On December 9 six policemen died and three others were injured in a bomb blast that took place on a main thoroughfare going to the Giza pyramids.

In Somalia more than two dozen are dead and 50 wounded due to a suicide truck bomb hitting the entrance of Somalia’s biggest port on December 11. Islamist militant group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group claims they were trying to disrupt the already protracted parliamentary elections. The three-month long vote is set to end on December 29.

In Nigeria at least three people died and 17 were injured with two girl suicide bombers killed exploded in market in Maiduguri December 11.Residents of the northeastern Nigerian city claim the death toll higher at nine. The attack has all the markings of a Boko Haram attack.
