African Petroleum CEO Meets with Gambian President

Friday, July 21, 2017

Gambia’s president, Adama Barrow, met with African Petroleum’s CEO, Jens Pace, to discuss the status of the independent explorer’s licenses in the country. The country’s oil ministry has previously said that African Petroleum’s licenses had expired.

“The CEO of African Petroleum Jens Pace met President Barrow. The issues are being discussed and when a final decision is taken you will be informed,” presidential spokeswoman Amie Bojang said in an email to Reuters.

African Petroleum spokesman Ben Romney said the meeting between Barrow and Pace took place on July 13, adding that talks were ongoing.

Gambia’s oil ministry says that the company failed to meet its commitments on the acreage. Under the terms negotiated with the government, African Petroleum was to drill on the acreage prior to the September 2016 end of the exploration period.

African Petroleum held title to blocks A1 and A4 offshore Gambia.
