Al Shabaab Attack in Nairobi

Nairobi suffered another attack by terrorists on January 15. According to press reports coming out of Kenya, gunmen blasted their way into a hotel and office complex.

Sustained automatic gunfire and grenade explosions were heard as the gunmen rushed in and scores of people fled the scene.

Somali Islamists, al Shabaab, have taken credit for the attack.

Over the course of the day, the number of casualties grew, with the latest reports in the early morning hours (local time) stating at least 15 dead, with many more wounded, although an official number has not yet been released. One of the dead is said to be a US national.

Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i said security forces had secured all of the buildings affected by Tuesday evening.

Some reports claim that one of the attackers had been apprehended.
