Monday, October 17, 2016

The ministers of energy from Algeria and Jordan, Noureddine Boutarfa and Ibrahim Saif, respectively, met to discuss the challenges Jordan is experiencing in its energy sector. Saif highlighted the financial, economic and social consequences the country faces due to the high cost of energy. The Jordanian minister also spoke of his government’s efforts to diversify different energy sources and focus on new technologies in various fields of energy.

The two met while attending the World Energy Congress and discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and importing liquefied natural gas from Algeria, as part of the MoU signed between the two countries last year.

Boutarfa said Algeria will provide a quote for the supply of LNG to Jordan to help the country’s National Electric Power Company’s (NEPCO) with the feedstock needed to provide power. The LNG quote will come from Algeria’s state-run Sonatrach.

Shale oil also came up in the discussions, as well as oil and gas exploration.
