North African neighbors Libya and Algeria are looking to strengthen cooperation in in the oil industry hoping to revitalize Algeria’s state-run firm Sonatrach’s Libyan activities according to local media reports.
Algeria and Libya’s petroleum ministers, Yousef Yousfi and Abdel al Bari Arsi respectively, held talks in Algiers last week. “The talks between the two sides focused on ways and means to strengthen cooperation… between the two countries in the fields of oil and gas industry as well as the activities of the Sonatrach complex operating in Libya,” the report said.
Arsi reaffirmed the importance of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of oil and gas. He also emphasized the importance that Libya attaches to cooperation, experience sharing and coordination in international organizations between the two countries.
Sonatrach has discovered two oil fields and drilled eight wells on its assets in Libya.
