Algeria Courts Russian Firms

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Algeria is courting Russian firms Gazprom and Lukoil in an effort to get them to participate in exploration and development of resources in the North African country. According to Gazprom, Algerian authorities have asked the two firms to tender for the joint development and exploration of some of the 30 fields.

The invitation to participate in the country’s oil and gas industry goes back to an agreement signed by Algeria and both Russian firms in 2006 for joint cooperation. While the agreement was signed eight years ago no joint projects have been agreed to as yet Vedomosti newspaper said.
