Algeria is betting on increasing its natural gas production over the next four years, according to a report from state-media APS, who quoted state-run oil and gas firm Sonatrach’s CEO Said Sahnoun as saying,“In the medium term we plan to increase our production capacity to reach 151 billion m3 by 2019.”
The increased production of Algerian natural gas will come from gas fields located at Tinhert, GassiTouil, AhnetMenzel, Ledjmet East and BirBerkine.
Other gas projects that are expected to come onstream and are being developed in partnership with Sonatrach are the Touat with the French group GDF Suez, South In Salah with BP, and Statoil and Reggane Nord with Repsol, RWE DEA, and Edison.
The announcement of the planned increase of production comes at a time when Egypt and Argentina show up as new major markets in the medium term for the Algerian natural gas.
