Algeria has suspended all flights to Libya following the detention of hundreds of Moroccans trying to travel to Libya. The Algerian government fears their airport is being used to transit fighters for ISIS into Libya.
The decision to suspend flights to Libya was taken by the Algerian civilian aviation authority on January 26. No reason was given for the suspension.
“The decision will be effective on January 29,” according to a statement from the aviation authority. No word was given on when those flights would resume.
The decision to suspend the flights also followed a visit from the new Libyan prime minister, Fayez Seraj, who heads a UN-backed national unity government to Algeria for a meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
