Monday, May 23, 2016

Algeria and Jordan signed a MoU that will have the North African country supplying oil and gas to Jordan by September. The MoU was signed between Algerian Minister of Energy, Salah Khebri and the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ibrahim Saif.

While partially aimed at diversifying Algeria’s crude oil sales it also involves the cooperation of the two countries in the fields of prospection and production of hydrocarbon, LNG, LPG, and the distribution of gas, and renewable energies.

Khebri said that Algeria’s state-run Sonatrach Group will start shipping LNG and LPG to Jordan in September, according to a Bloomberg report. Sonatrach and Jordan’s National Electric Power Company are expected to reach a final agreement in the next few weeks.

This will be the first time Jordan has received petroleum and gas from Algeria.
