Algeria to Host GECF 22nd Ministerial Meeting. Discusses Partnerships with Russia

The proposal to hold the next ministerial meeting of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF) in Algeria in November 2020 was accepted by its members, while the Minister of Energy, Mohamed Arkab, was appointed chairman of this meeting, according to Algerian state firm Sonatrach.

These decisions were taken at the 21st GECF Ministerial Meeting, held in Moscow, Russia, in which Algeria participated, in parallel with the Russian Energy Week, held Oct 2-3.

The GECF meeting examined the conditions of the gas market and its short, medium and long-term prospects. It also adopted the work program and the budget of the Forum for the year 2020.

In addition, the ministerial meeting unanimously adopted the Algerian proposal for the Constitution of the Gas Research Institute of GECF, established in Algeria.

Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab has been appointed as the chair of the ministerial meeting for the year 2020 and the proposal to hold the next ministerial meeting in Algeria in November 2020 has been accepted.

The Algerian delegation led by SONATRACH’s P-dg, Rachid Hachichi, with the participation of Sonelgaz’s CEO, Chahar Boulakhras, also participated in Energy Week.

In addition to these events, meetings with several Russian companies were held to identify partnership opportunities.
