Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-run oil and gas firm reported that it plans to start production from six gas fields with a total capacity of 74 Mmcm/d in the next three years. The additional gas production will aid Algeria in its struggles to increase production output.
The country has seen its production decline a bit over the past several years due to lack of investment by foreign operators. Its recent licensing round, which will close in September, is seen by the industry a litmus test on whether the new terms the government is offering as well as whether the security situation has improved enough to risk investment.
Fields coming online over the next few years include the Tinhert at a peak production rate of 24 Mmcm/d and the Hassi Bahamou and Hassi Mena will start production in 2017 with a capacity totaling 21 Mmcm/d. Algeria will also see the Repsol/RWE Dea/Edison Reggane project set to start in 2017 and should hit 12 Mmcm/d, while Sonatrach and GDF Suez should see their Touat field come online with a capacity of 12 Mmcm/d at about the same time.
Sonatrach is also developing the Timimoun project in partnership with French group Total, and production will start between now and 2018 with 5 million cubic meters, the state news agency APS said.
