The Algerian Ministry of Defense revealed that government troops killed six armed Islamist militants west of Algiers, where security forces last week broke up an Islamic State cell.
In a Ministry statement it was reported that five Kalashnikov rifles and ammunition were also recovered in the operation, which started last week. It also said that troops had killed two previously during the same mission, raising the toll to eight.
Algerian media also reported that state security forces had broken up an Islamic State cell in Tipaza province the previous week.
