Algeria’s FLN and Ally Take Majority at Polls

Algeria’s ruling National Liberation Front (FNL) and its coalition ally have won a majority of seats in Algerian parliamentary elections according to the Interior Ministry. The Ministry said that voter turnout was low with only about 38% of those eligible to vote making it to the polls.

Interior Minister Noureddine Bedoui told a press conference that FLN President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s party, won 164 of the 462 seats in the lower house of parliament, while former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia’s Rassemblement National finished second with 97 seats. The Rassemblement National is a FLN ally.
