Anadarko Lines up Buyers

Thursday, September 12, 2013

The lining up of buyers for Mozambique’s gas production has begun. According to Al Walker, CEO of the company Anadarko is talking to buyers about supplies from the planned LNG project off the coast of Mozambique on Offshore Area 1.

“We believe we will be announcing heads of agreements through the course of this year and next,” Anadarko CEO Al Walker told an LNG conference in Tokyo, referring to initial supply contracts.

The company is on target to ship the first cargo from Mozambique in 2018 and has completed 90% of the offshore FEED work and 60% of onshore work, Walker said.

By the end of the year Anadarko will have invested $3 billion in its discoveries off the coast of Mozambique, which have between 35 and 65 trillion cubic feet of estimated recoverable reserves in a block known as Area 1, he said.

The company is in the midst of talks with about 20 buyers according to a source in a Reuters report.

Anadarko and ENI, whose Area 4 is just as gas laden as Area 1, will be developing the LNG plant together and Anadarko says it is planning an eventual capacity of 50 million tons a year of LNG from Mozambique.
