Angola on Pace to Top 2 Million Bpd

Friday, August 22, 2014

Angola is set to top the 2 million bpd mark in the next two years according to a prediction by  Moody’s Investors Service. Moody’s cited deepwater projects due on stream soon in the Lower Congo basin and the government’s plans to offer deep and ultra-deepwater blocks to international operators next year in the southern Kwanza basin and unexplored Namibe basin.

One project in the mix is Total’s Kaombo project on Block 32. Total and its partners expect the field online in 2018 and to add to Angola’s ever growing production totals. Total projects Kaombo output at 230,000 bpd, which will join a further 300,000 bpd of production starting up from other developments over the next 18 months.

Angola will see its CLOV development pick up the pace to 160,000 bpd when it hits peak production and ENI will add production from Block 15/06 in 2015, while ExxonMobil will contribute some additional production from Block 15.

While production from Cobalt International Energy is a bit farther off, the company is set to develop some of its pre-salt discoveries from Block 20.
